Inspiring Learning

A major shift has occurred in the last few years amongst successful companies – moving away from just providing training to supporting learning in the workplace.

It is too expensive to train everyone in everything they need to know but people do need support and guidance in learning what they need to learn if you are to be successful. Moreover, how well employers support and invest in their people has become a major factor in achieving really engaged employees.

A Coordinated Approach to Learning

As an Advisor and Assessor for Investors in People for many years, I helped a wide range of organisations to focus their efforts on learning and development as a business success driver. While you may have given up on the Standard or never been attracted to it, much of its thinking is still very relevant.

To help you develop a coordinated approach to learning I help you think through the response to key questions like:

  • What are the key skills that will deliver our business goals? How do we help our people to acquire and improve those skills?
  • Do we help people enough when making critical transitions – joining, developing, changing roles? Do we give them a good start or set them up to fail?
  • How do we help people become more effective learners with all that is available to us today?

While a term like ‘learning strategy’ may seem a bit abstract and academic, sorting out your response to the above questions, and others that flow from them, is what it really means. Get your approach to learning right as an organisation and the effort will provide real dividends.
