Designing Solutions
In my own development I have added the skills of a facilitator of learning to those of a successful trainer.
Sometimes training can be too much about delivering content with the focus on the trainer rather than the needs of the learner. Exposure to the ideas of Accelerated Learning improved my performance as a trainer because it made me focus, in design and delivery, on the experience of the learner.
Learning Together
As a facilitator of learning I focus on setting up learning groups, particularly of managers.
Learning is a social activity as much as a solitary activity and the setting of a group focuses on that dimension.
Using the ideas of Action Learning, groups learn to help each other with the questions they have in both a challenging and supportive way.
The programmes I create normally combine a rich mixture of action learning sets, project work, individual coaching/mentoring and training inputs.
I also create bespoke training programmes which work with the issues people have in their working context. I particularly focus on helping people to develop the skills that improve their productivity, for example:
- Developing ideas
- Thinking more creatively
- Hold more effective meetings
- Getting things done
In this way, people learn not only to improve their capability during the programme but to make progress on real work issues.
