our learning practices > accelerated learning
Too much training has been over focused on content and the trainer. The deadly nature of such an approach is epitomised by ‘death by PowerPoint’ sessions where people are passive consumers. There is an alternative which is centred on people and the variety of ways in which they prefer to learn. It has become known as Accelerated Learning, and more recently, Brain Friendly Learning.
A learning experience based on accelerated learning principles is likely to exhibit:
- Care with getting people into the right state for learning and paying attention to that state throughout the experience,
- A stimulating setting for learning with key messages carried by messages on the walls and perhaps music to create or change a mood,
- An emphasis on activities which engage people in collaborating together, appealing to a variety of learning preferences,
- A defined cycle to the learning process which will include Preparation, Presentation, Practice and Performance.
To put it briefly, it will provide both ‘sizzle and substance’ to the whole process of learning. . Our support includes a basic introduction to the concepts and the re-design of current programmes which are a problem.
